Title: Li-po's in Doha
Post by: bashace on September 13, 2009, 08:28:14 AM
Hi all,

are Li-po's readily available in Doha? Took me two weeks of online searching to find a site to mail me Li-po's from the U.S. I am specifically looking for 3S1P 15C-20C 2100-2500 mah balanced packs.

The different shops do carry some, but you may not find much variety.  Check with the shops by calling them, the contact information is in the local hobby shops thread on this forum.

Thanks Anwar,

after spending what feels like weeks on the internet, I found that A Main Hobbies will ship Li-po's to me in Doha and ordered about 8 packs to make sure I had enough. When I get back in town, I plan on heading over to Hobbyland and scoping out what they have. I bought my Extra 330 and TT Raptor 60 from them, just been a while since I went over and said hi.

Hi Anwar,

I bought 5 Lipos 3S 1300mAh and 3 Lipos 3S 5000mAh from Hobbyking online, and i ship it via my Aramex account in US. Unfortunately they said batteries are not allowed to be shipped here into Qatar. They are now being hold in US Aramex warehouse.
I checked with Aramex they would require MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for them to release into Qatar.
I tried to contact Hobbyking but they gave me a hard time to get the MSDS form.
Do you have any idea where else can i buy Lipos online or is there any other way to bring Lipos into Qatar.
I look around hobby shop in Doha but they are really expensive and limited.

best regards,
niko

I usually order Lipo from Hobbyking and there is an option to select LIPO friendly shipping.  It takes much longer compared to Aramex.

Hi Jamal,
I can't seem to find the option Lipo friendly shipping. I tried until final step in Hobby king which is until entering my credit card information. I used Qatar PO BOX. Can you please let me know where to select the option?
best regards,
niko

Chris, I also would like to order Lipo's and now the shipping charges for lipo is very high.  May be we can combine our order to save on the shipping charges.

Will discuss further when we meet tomorrow morning.

Any special permission required to get in the Lipos? Is there any limit as in the number, capacity, etc?

I would like to order the Haiyin batteries direct from China instead of the Lipos from Hobby King. They puffed up after 5 charges but the Haiyin I got from Singapore is still going strong after 15 charges.

Puffing of batteries is usually related to over discharge.  Are you timing your flights and making sure you are following the "80% discharge only" rule ?  One deep discharge, and many lipos bulge, and will never go back to their normal self :(

Take special care. Never use 2200 mAh 3S below 11.5 V. Used the HK batteries when first started and flew only the bixler. So there was not much load. Was concentrating on throttle management so keeping throttle as low as possible.

Eventually lost most of my HK batteries through crashes and other damages.

No special permission required , on limit of capacity via hobby king.

Title: Any experienc how to get Lipos form abroad against reasonable shipping costs???
Post by: bvuaemal on April 19, 2014, 09:26:56 PM
In the past I always ordered lipos from hobbyking against reasonable shipping cost.
Now I only get the only option to ship with Fedex for min USD 55 (one battery).
Are there other options or shops out there with lower shipping cost??
Any experience??
If you have please let me/us know

All,

Thanks for the info - assuming the shipping is cheaper with the Gulf shop --> the batteries are far more expensive.
In comparison with http://www.haiyinstore.com probably haiyinstore will be cheaper if more Lipos are bought.

Has anyone experience buying these straight from ebay? See attached example?

I ordered 5 lipos from Haiyin in Feb 2014 details as follow:
2 x 3000mAh 4S 35C for USD 73.24
2 x 3600mAh 4S 30C for USD 75.79
1 x 4000mAh 4S 30C for USD 40.38
Shipping                  for USD 103.86 Fedex International Express
Total                           USD 293.27
Just under QAR 1100

Ordered on 4 Feb and got it on 6 Feb. No letters asked for.

Try getting these prices here in Doha and you will be paying at least twice as much.

Have been using Haiyin 2200mAh for over 8 mths and they are still good hardly any swelling.

Chris,

Thanks,
1 at the moment your option looks the most promising.
2 I  might do a test  and try to order straight from Ebay
3 I also got a contact number of the Hayin representative in Dubai - spoke with him and awaiting pricing and shipping details. If something interesting comes out I will post it on the Forum. Would be good if we could establish and maintain a route to get  reasonable priced Lipos in Doha.

Maybe we could combine our Lipo request in a  large order which would make it interesting for the Dubai representative!

I just joined your site and I am also looking to have batteries shipped in.

One of the options I may try is to ship from the US using Borderlinx. It is an Aramex competitor and lo and behold uses DHL but the good part is that they ship to a Doha address. Or of course you can pickup at the DHL office. Anyone try this before?

Reason I'm looking at this option is that they actually have a specific policy regard lithium battery shipments which is the IATA limits and that it has to be packaged right instead of the Aramex 'just say no' policy.

Shipping costs are as far as I can determine the same as Aramex except they seem to have a volume multiplier for larger sized light packages so large RC airplanes may be out.

Anyway, I'm placing the order this evening to try out and will post the results shortly unless of course someone beats me to the punch.

Well placed my 2nd order from Haiyin on Friday and expect to get it on Thursday. Too bad I placed the order on a weekend. The delivery was initiated only on Monday. 6 x 200 mAh 3S 35C for QAR 730 about QAR 121 per piece. How much cheaper do you want it to go? I know that Hobby king is cheap but I have used the turnigy lipos when I first started and after about 4 cycles, they start to puff up. The current batch of Haiyin have lasted me almost a year and I fly almost every weekend and use all my batteries. At least 40 charges. So in my opinion, it is worth the little bit extra. Delivery is fast. Had a friend who order some 6S and he got it within 4 days.

Update my previous post on ordering batteries via Borderlinx.

Got 4 4000mA 30Cs ordered from a US online shop, shipped via Borderlinx and they arrived without any issues in my office. Now you do need to prepay to ship them though but all in all no issues.
