I've been flying at the Al Wakrah site for a while now, usually in the early evening around 3pm until dark - however it is becoming an issue with the guys who are flying their Falcon's to the point 2 guys were yesterday threatened with the Police and were told to leave. I haven't experienced it myself but I have been told to land and not fly.

Is there any more news on the official site at Al Wakrah or are there any other spots other than Al Khor (too far)??

Any help would be great, I only fly RC planes so ideally need somewhere to be able to take off and land.

It is a well known issue with Wakrah, during the cooler months.  Fact of the matter is that it is their turf, and we need to respect that.  The simplest solution is to drive another 2 to 3 kilometers deeper on the same track/road (in the direction of Mesaieed, towards the new port construction), and fly there.  Since there is some uneven ground there, the falcon folks do not usually come there, as it is difficult for them to chase the birds through uneven turf.  Even so, having a dedicated person as "look out" really helps.  We have survived by doing so far the past 2 or 3 years.  When you hear the cars honking, try to land ASAP, and wait around till the falcon activity in your close vicinity subsides.  The falcon folks are generally very understanding, and try to accommodate the RC folks.  We have witnessed many times when they come and ask us to stop flying for 15 minutes so that they can do their thing, then we can continue for some time, they they are up in the air again, and so on.  They get irritated when you are close to their action that the birds tend to chase RC planes, and people are flying non-stop.

Other than Al Khor, there are fields, but they are private ones (accessible only by invitation) Sad  The scientific club at one point said another location between Wakrah and Mesaieed is being approved by the interior ministry, but it seems to still waiting for final approvals.

Ok thanks, i'll head out there this week and see if I can find anywhere new to fly. Thanks again.  Wink

With the cooler months on the way do the falcon guys tend to only fly in the early evening or are they there all day??

They are there during the mornings and evenings on most days.  We tend to go on Friday mornings, and there is only limited falcon activity at that time, and it is fairly safe to fly at the original location (ie, we do not have to go deeper).

At other times, it is just better to go deeper.

Hello,
I am new in this hobby and like to come fly my Sky Surfer with you guys early Friday morning around 0615 - 0630 when there is no or less wind. Anyone planning on being there. May be I can tag a long or follow someone there. I am not very familiar with the local area.

The map in the first post has been updated :

Basically, just keep going left, sort of towards Doha, and closer to the junkyard (but behind it).

As everyone know already, this field is not inaccessible for RC flying.

We may have located another field, still waiting confirmation.

May be we should just do what these folks are doing Smiley
