I was thinking about returning from my next home leave with the gear for a new airplane. Is there a requirement in Qatar for a license or permit to fly? I would hate to drop the bucks and get stuck with something I can'nt fly. Where would one look for such laws and regulations.

Hi,
I'm new in this hobby but I believe that having a license will be a must before flying. I don't have any information if the scientific club has its own website but try calling this nos.: +9744583786/0

Thanks for the information. I have another lead and will post when I find out. Someone was also saying you could only fly in one area.

Your friend is right that there is only one airfield but there are still some undiscovered Airfields, LOL  Grin

Here is the location of the other airfield between Wakra & Mesaieed.

If you are going from Doha, go past the Al-Saleem Petrol Station, take the next available U turn, and drive back for about 400 meters.  Then turn right (there is a small board identifying the fully paved but small road as "CP-14").  Go about half a kilometer, and just before the road ends at the QatarCo yard (large walled compound), turn right again into the desert.  Drive for about a kilometer  through the unpaved tracks, and you are at the field.

Lots of action on Friday mornings, starting around 5am. Sporadic on other days and evenings.

(This info is from the admin.)

Cheers,

Hi guys -

Good to see that the site is coming alive, and people are beginning to help each other !

I believe that you have to be a member of the Aviation centre of Qatar Scientific Club to be legally operating RC aircraft in Qatar.  It costs around QR300 first first year, and QR200 per year after that. And it is a simple procedure to become a member; just walk-in with your Qatar ID card (everyone except tourists/visitors gets an ID card, whether you are a citizen of Qatar or if you are an expatriate working here) and a recent passport size photo.  The Qatar Scientific Club is located on the road connecting the Vegetable Market roundabout to the Abu Hamour (Al Jazeera Academy) roundabout.

There is only one official airfield in Qatar, located at Al-Khor.  It is important that if you are flying turbine/jet engine powered aircrafts, you do it from this official airfield.    There is another "adhoc/unofficial" location where many people fly, located between Wakrah and Mesaieed. I have heard of others flying in remote beaches and farmhouses.

Alright, good deal, I'll hustle up my license ASAP. I guess the next question will be directions to the Al Khor field. I'm living or should I say, staying at RLC - QGX and this will make it real convenient. I did get most of my goodies on this home leave, but forgot some, so I'll need to find a local hobby shop eventually, any suggestions.

I stumbled across the video at Al Khor....
