Hi all,

There doesn’t appear to be any recent threads with answers to some questions about RC Flying in Qatar so I’m starting a new thread. Hopefully the RC flying community is thriving here in Qatar somewhere?!

Are the Al Kohr and Wakra sites still used for flying? Can anyone provide updated location details for these? Do we need to be members to use the sites? How and where do we sign up?

Are there any more RC shops left in Qatar that stock radio gear, aeroplanes and or helicopters?

In one of the old threads someone mentioned needing to become a member of a Scientific Club in order to bring in RC equipment, is this still the case?

And finally, are there any dedicated RC clubs in Qatar to join?

Looking to get back into Outdoor RC flying as my indoor micro helicopter is getting a bit boring now!

Hello Lbl8ke, hello mohammedalmusimie

Unfortunately, it seems RC activity has stop here in Qatar, or at least the activity here in the forum.
I also join recently, and since I had no guidance, I had to do some research myself.
Let's see what I already found...

Quote
Are the Al Kohr and Wakra sites still used for flying?
As far as I know, only Al Khor flying field is open.

Can anyone provide updated location details for these?
To go to Al Khor flying airfield, you have to take Shamal highway and exit at exit 54

Quote
Do we need to be members to use the sites?
You don't need to be member to use the flying airfield, but since you need authorization to fly, end result is the same...

HobbyLand is open, I was there recently.
http://www.thehobbyland.com/
It's in Al Rayyan, close to US embassy

To fly in Qatar you need to have an authorization, given by Qatar RC Sport Center, in accordance with Civil Aviation Authority
https://www.caa.gov.qa/en-us/Pages/Faqs.aspx
It's located in Al Gharrafa, close to Landmark Mall

Membership costs 500qar, valid for 1 year, and you have to pay also 200qar for an assessment before you can get your authorization.
Assessment is made in Al Khor flying field, usually at Thursdays. Staff in RC Sport Center will give you a name and a phone number to call and book your assessment.

I hope I have answered most of your doubts. Keep in touch
Regards
JC

Hi JCarlos,

Thank you very much for the comprehensive information.

I’ll wait until after Eid and try to progress with obtaining permission and to visit the site.

It’s a shame the RC Flying isn’t very popular in Qatar.

This wonderful informations, thanks a lot ...
But i think the location you mentioned in your post is the old one , the new one is very close to it. They also have a Facebook page as well and they regularly share activities... so i think its still active.

I'm a drone guy and I used to build my own drones, where should I get drone here ? Does the shop you posted sell drones? What if i want to order my own drone from outside Qatar? Will be there any problems with the customs? I know you may not have the answers for all that now; but i think we need to keep in touch for any new information or progress ? Even if you would like we can arrange for a meeting or go together to RC center.

Here is the new location Dropped pin
Near Al Khor

I never been there, since I'm still waiting to have my assessment, but you are right, I just reach the above mentioned location by reading the posts on the forum and seeing the videos, but they are from more than 1 year ago.
There is a 1st video saying exit 44, but then on that video, there is a link for another video saying exit 54, so that's the correct one... I guess...
Anyway, I update the post with the directions, now should be more easy

I believe it was popular before due to the amount of posts, maybe still is, and maybe people doesn't come to the forum only.

True, I don't have all the information, even the posts on the forum are outdated, so no help reading them.
I think the best is to get in touch with RC Sports Center and ask them what are the current procedures
