Qatar has only one official RC field for airplanes and helis, close to the city of Al-Khor, located at about a 30 minutes ride by car from Doha.

The rough directions are as follows...  (UPDATED AS OF MARCH 2013)

From Doha, go on the highway that takes you to Shamal/Ruwais (the highway that starts from the Landmark Mall). About 28 kms on this road (from Landmark), you will see the junction where the road to Al-Khor city (and Ras Laffan) hits the road you are travelling on. Continue straight on the same road (do not turn right into Al-Khor city) for about 6.5 kms, and you will see a tall telecom tower standing alone on the left side of the road (do not confuse this with the many smaller towers of power transmission lines one kilometer earlier on the road). One more kilometer after you see the telecom tower, you will see a nice plantation on your left with people working the vegetable fields (There are many plantations there, this is kind of unique in that there are lots of cabbages/lettuce being grown and tall trees towards the back, unlike the other farms that have just date palms). There is an overpass in front of the plantation, so you have to sort of take the exit before you hit the plantation.  After taking the exit, climb on to the overpass, make a left so that you cross the highway underneath you, and when you hit the other end of the overpass, MAKE A RIGHT !  After about 100 meters on the two way service road (you are still going north, since you made a right), you will see a gravel/mud road that is just north of the plantation (in the east-west orientation).  Make a left into that pretty much straight road, and the field entrance is about 700 meters from the highway.

Here is an annotated map : http://goo.gl/maps/WMbC

The gate is at N 25 deg 41.757' E 51 deg 21.1661'

Anwar, Thank you very much for publishing the map to the flying field. Went there this morning (29/08/08) around 7 am, but there weren't anyone flying. Only the caretaker was there. What are the times and days they fly in Al Khor.

Must be an effect of the summer holidays  :Smiley

My experience is that normally, there are a few folks there on Friday mornings.  Most of the action is on Friday afternoons.  On Saturdays, action is sporadic, but there is a good chance you will see some people on Saturday afternoon also.

I when out to Wahkra yesterday but could not get in. Will try Al Khor today. Are there any other places where people are flying?

I am not sure what you meant by "could not get in" to Wakrah, since it is open desert  Shocked   Please contact me via PM if you want to go again, and we can arrange to meet up.

Other than Wakrah and Al-Khor, some people are flying in the desert close to Sealine Resort in Umm-Said (but it is relatively rare compared to the other two locations).

Dear all,

today I was driving to Al Shamal Road trying to find the R/C Airfield but I couldn't find it.

Can someone give me more details about how to get it the airfield?

I tried to use the help of my GPS but was not possible.

I will appreciate your help.

Thank you...

I am not sure how any more detailed instructions can be given, except for GPS co-ordinates (which I will try to get next time).  But if you see the annotated map in the first post of this thread, that should give you a fair idea.

My advice is to get someone to show you the way. I go there regularly and I still need the tracks on my GPS to find the field. Admittedly I have no sense of direction, but if you got off the track and had a puncture or breakdown it could get serious.
It is also made difficult by the North Road road-works which can change the place where you come off the North Road each week.
But if you want to try on your own here are some GPS coordinates
North Road N 25 deg 40.738' E 51 deg 23.165' South bound side look for small old tarmac road
about 100 Meters on the right look for old tires marking the track at N 25 deg 40.682 E 51 deg 22.933'
Follow clear track marked by old tires mostly NE direction.
The gate is at N 25 deg 41.757' E 51 deg 21.1661'
It is marked Qatar RC airfield. It is clear where to go at the gate. If you do not see that you are at the wrong gate. You can just wait at the start point for someone with a model plane in their vehicle jump out your vehicle and ask if you can follow them
Once you get there is has to be one of the best model airstrips anywhere. I am happy to show the way if I am going there. It is hard to see the field until you are almost there
Hope this helps

Hi every one,

Let me introduce myself I am Soegeng Priyanto, I have been 12 years in Qatar and starting my hobby of RC Airplane since one year ago but never come to Al Khor RC Airfield. This morning I went to Al Khor Airfield, I thought the airport was for The RC plane but big real aircraft was surprising me. Then I asked where is the RC airfield, the guy told me it is about 14 kms from this field but did not tell me exactly where it is. I went home and re-search from internet finally I got the area. So thanks so much to Anwar, your map is really helpful. I will go there tomorrow to join with you guys, Insha Allah Smiley.

Hello to all RCLOVERS in Qatar,

Myself Singh, from India. Was in Bombay and flying electric planes between 2002-2008 and then had to leave hobby as I had to leave for Bahrain (RC planes not allowed there).

Now came to Qatar in new job.

Is entry pass required for visitors in ALKHOR rc field?

Kindly reply. Huh?

There are no restrictions on visiting the field, If you are planning to fly Nitro/Large planes or Heli's,  it is better to get a licence from QSC.

Dear Jamaal,

I travel from Doha to Ras Laffen for work as of now.

Today I tried to locate this after Al Khor diversion.

Is this field on the left hand side while going towards RAS LAFFEN?

Where a kind of farm house is there?

Can u tell me over the phone? My cell number 50181576.

Thanks in advance.

If anyone is interested, I have made some directions to Exit 44 North Expressway (Al Shamal Road) and also a video from exit 44 to the RC airfield.
