Qatar has only one official RC field for airplanes and helis, close to the city of Al-Khor, located at about a 30 minutes ride by car from Doha.

The rough directions are as follows...

From Doha, go on the highway that takes you to Shamal/Ruwais (the highway that starts from the Landmark Mall). About 28 kms on this road (from Landmark), you will see the junction where the road to Al-Khor city (and Ras Laffan) hits the road you are travelling on. Continue straight on the same road (do not turn right into Al-Khor city) for about 6.5 kms, and you will see a tall telecom tower standing alone on the left side of the road (do not confuse this with the many smaller towers of power transmission lines one kilometer earlier on the road). One more kilometer after you see the telecom tower, you will see a nice plantation on your left with people working the vegetable fields (There are many plantations there, this is kind of unique in that there are lots of cabbages/lettuce being grown and tall trees towards the back, unlike the other farms that have just date palms). You have to exit the highway to your left, as if to enter the plantation (be careful about on-coming traffic). There is a small opening in the guard-rails there, and a some-what steep incline that will take you into the plantation. As soon as you come down the incline into the non-paved track, turn left again (which means you do NOT enter the plantation), and follow the boldest tyre marks, keeping in mind the map given below. Basically, you go around the plantation to the back side of it, past what seems to a deserted single storey house on your left side, and further into the wilderness. The entrance to the field is towards the back of the field (south side), which is really confusing for first-timers.

Anwar, Thank you very much for publishing the map to the flying field. Went there this morning (29/08/08) around 7 am, but there weren't anyone flying. Only the caretaker was there. What are the times and days they fly in Al Khor.

Must be an effect of the summer holidays  Roll Eyes

My experience is that normally, there are a few folks there on Friday mornings.  Most of the action is on Friday afternoons.  On Saturdays, action is sporadic, but there is a good chance you will see some people on Saturday afternoon also.

I have arrived in Qatar and very excited about flying. My res. permit will be in place within the next couple of weeks.

I when out to Wahkra yesterday but could not get in. Will try Al Khor today. Are there any other places where people are flying?

I am not sure what you meant by "could not get in" to Wakrah, since it is open desert  Shocked   Please contact me via PM if you want to go again, and we can arrange to meet up.

Other than Wakrah and Al-Khor, some people are flying in the desert close to Sealine Resort in Umm-Said (but it is relatively rare compared to the other two locations).

Dear all,

today I was driving to Al Shamal Road trying to find the R/C Airfield but I couldn't find it.

Can someone give me more details about how to get it the airfield?

I tried to use the help of my GPS but was not possible.

I will appreciate your help.

Thank you...

I am not sure how any more detailed instructions can be given, except for GPS co-ordinates (which I will try to get next time).  But if you see the annotated map in the first post of this thread, that should give you a fair idea.
